Hollywood Celebrities with Surprising Degrees

Hollywood sign

Who knew celebrities went to university? And who would’ve thought they didn’t all get degrees in drama, theatre or the performing arts?

Here’s our lineup of impressive and some rather unusual bachelor’s degrees held by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars – these are sure to make your jaw drop!

1. Lisa Kudrow

• Bachelor’s degree: Psychobiology
• School: Vassar College

Apparently, it takes a smart woman to play dumb. In real life, the gal who played ditzy Phoebe on Friends is a brainiac.

2. Eva Longoria

• Bachelor’s degree: Kinesiology
• School: Texas A&M University-Kingsville

No wonder Eva Longoria is in such great shape! She knows exactly how her body works.

3. Dan Grimaldi

• Bachelor’s degree: Mathematics
• School: Fordham University

This is one we’d never have pegged as a math geek. The Sopranos costar also managed to pick up a master’s in operations research and a PhD in data processing.

4. Dexter Holland

• Bachelor’s degree: Biology
• School: University of Southern California

The singer and guitarist from The Offspring also has a master’s in molecular biology. Pretty fly!

5. Vinny Guadagnino

• Bachelor’s degree: Political Science
• School: The College of Staten Island

So not all Jersey Shore stars are blockheads. Vinny was studying for his LSATs and heading to law school when he hit a detour by being cast in the MTV reality show.

6. Will Ferrell

• Bachelor’s degree: Sports Broadcasting
• School: University of Southern California

After seeing him in Anchorman, we figure it’s a good thing Will decided to pursue a career in acting instead of sports broadcasting. We can’t imagine listening to Ron Burgundy all season.

7. Montel Williams

• Bachelor’s degree: Engineering
• School: U.S. Naval Academy

What do engineering and talk shows have in common? Montel Williams, it seems.

8. Natalie Portman

• Bachelor’s degree: Psychology
• School: Harvard University

“I’d rather be smart than a movie star,” she once told a New York Times reporter. Some people have it all, huh?

9. Kevin Costner

• Bachelor’s degree: Business
• School: California State University, Fullerton

Hmmm … maybe Kev learned enough to nail his role in the new corporate-world drama The Company Men. Oh, wait, he plays a blue-collar carpenter.

10. Ray Romano

• Bachelor’s degree: Accounting
• School: Queens College

Everybody loves … an accountant?
